Frequently Asked Questions
WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?
Dash Physical Therapy is located inside Motiv8 Fitness, (125 Trade St, Ste E, Lexington). When you arrive, grab a seat in the front lobby. Your physical therapist will meet you within 5 minutes of your scheduled appointment time. We value your time and ensure you won't have to wait long for your appointment.

We also have an alternative location for orthopedic patients only at this time. We can see some clients, on a limited schedule, at KYnesis (3450 Todds Rd, Ste 50, Lexington). At this location, come in the door beside the gym, and have a seat in the lobby anywhere. Your physical therapist will meet you there.
DO I NEED A DOCTOR'S REFERRAL
Kentucky is a direct-access state, so you do not need a doctor’s referral to see a physical therapist for an evaluation. During our initial visit, your physical therapist will conduct a thorough assessment. If we determine that physical therapy isn’t appropriate for you at the current moment (e.g. we suspect a fracture instead of ankle sprain), we will refer you to a doctor in our trusted network who can address your needs.
WHAT TYPES OF HEALTH INSURANCE DO YOU ACCEPT?
We are a fee-for-service provider meaning that we are not contracted with any insurance companies. This still allows us to work with most insured people on a fee-for-service basis.

Though we are not directly contracted with insurance companies, we are an out-of-network provider and will be able to provide an invoice or superbill by request. This will allow you to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. Be sure to check your out-of-network benefits.

This applies to physical therapy only, you cannot be reimbursed through insurance for injury prevention sessions.
I HAVE GOOD INSURANCE, WHY SHOULD I PAY OUT OF POCKET?
Most people's insurance is not as good for physical therapy as they think. People will get a surprise bill in the mail after several months if you have not met your deductible and/or out-of-pocket maximum. Each physical therapy visit varies in price by code charged. This can end up being $100 per visit.

Now think about your in-network physical therapy experience. You are likely being seen by a physical therapy tech under the supervision of a physical therapist or physical therapist assistant juggling 1-3 other patients at the same time as you. At Dash Physical Therapy, you get the entire session with a doctor of physical therapy. We watch you move and can more easily get to the root cause of your pain. This means you will likely be seen for less visits and therefore require fewer visits over time.
HOW DO I PAY?
Payment will be collected by the end of each session.
You may pay with card, cash, or check made out to Dash Physical Therapy. We also accept FSA and HSA accounts/cards as well. And remember, FSA funds expire at the end of every year. Physical therapy and injury prevention services are the perfect thing to spend it on!
I'M NOT A SOCCER PLAYER, CLIMBER, OR OUTDOORSY, CAN I STILL COME SEE YOU?
ABSOLUTELY!

As long as you have goals to continue or get back to exercise, we will work great together! We participate in other types of exercise and local group classes as well and can not only get you back to painfree pilates, yoga, barre, boxing, etc., we likely have a great local facility to refer you to if you are looking for somewhere new to go.
WHAT DO I WEAR?
For both physical therapy and performance training, please wear workout attire. For pelvic floor PT, wear comfortable layers as well (see more on what a pelvic floor therapy session looks like below).
For physical therapy, we need to assess joint movement and may perform manual therapy. If you're here for upper back, shoulder, or neck issues, please wear or bring a top that allows us to see your shoulder blade. Men may be asked to remove their shirt for better visibility. For lower body concerns, please wear or bring shorts to change into.
WHAT DOES A PELVIC FLOOR THERAPIST TYPICALLY TREAT?
All things pee, poop, pain, and penetration!

Some examples of very commonly treated conditions include urge urinary or fecal incontinence, stress urinary or fecal incontinence, and pregnancy and post partum recovery. We also offer a birth prep course for you and your partner to learn about the labor process and what you can do to help your body and experience the birth story you imagine.
WHAT IS EXPECTED AT MY FIRST PELVIC FLOOR ASSESSMENT?
Your first pelvic floor appointment will be very similar to any other physical therapy appointment. You will be asked about your symptoms and then assessed for strength, functional movement, and breathing. Because the pelvic floor is a separate set of muscles that interacts closely with organs such as the bladder, uterus, and bowels, an internal assessment is performed both on the table and in standing to assess how these muscles work with your body.
DO I HAVE TO HAVE AN INTERNAL ASSESSMENT FOR MY PELVIC FLOOR APPOINTMENT?
No, you do not have to have an internal assessment. Internal assessments can be very powerful in determining the cause of your pelvic floor disorders, but we work with you and whatever you are comfortable with.

Men have pelvic floor issues as well, however, we do not currently have a physical therapist that treats men's pelvic floor impairments internally but can treat externally.
